While hearing a mention of “Royal Ploughing Ceremony,” many of us certainly visualize formalities of old and make a wild guess on what the sacred bulls will choose to consume from the comfort of the bed on our day off. Nevertheless…very few of us really know the true meaning of this important day…so let me explain! 

The Royal Ploughing is an ancient ceremony aimed to boost the morale of Thai farmers by recognizing their utmost importance to our economy and consisted of two separate rites…  

The first one known as “Auspicious Plant” seeks to bless the seeds to be free of diseases and grow in abundance. 

The second one called “Propitious Field” intends to signal the beginning of the new planting season. Thus, some farmers choose to start tilling their fields on this auspicious day.
